WHAT IS PAINT PROTECTION FILM (CLEAR BRA) ?

Paint protection film is a clear or coloured layer installed over painted panels that take the first impact from grit and road debris. Mercedes-Benz clear bra is an older name for the same type of protection, usually aimed at the front bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, and lights. We install XPEL, STEK DYNOshield, and SunTek in gloss, satin, and matte finishes. Film deals with impact marks better than a coating because it adds material over the panel. Mercedes-Benz ceramic coating adds a thin, hard sacrificial layer that resists light marring and helps with wash care, but it does not replace film on chip-prone areas. How long does it take to apply paint protection film?

A proper install time depends on the coverage package, the panel shape, the film finish, and the condition of the paint we inspect first. Mercedes paint protection film for a C-Class does not call for the same pattern work as coverage on a Sprinter or an EQS. We also allow for cleaning, panel checks, edge work, and a final review rather than setting an appointment by a fixed clock before we see the car. December’s mean daily low at YVR is 1.2 °C, which puts local winter driving in a repeated wet and freeze-thaw cycle. Fresh chips can change the work needed before installation. Are there any special care instructions for paint protection film?

Wash the film often enough to remove salt, grit, tree sap, and road film before they dry on the surface. What happens if the film gets scratched?

First, do not assume every line has reached the paint. Mercedes paint protection lets us inspect the mark on the film before deciding whether the panel needs more work. We check the damaged area, the edge condition, and whether the impact broke through to the paint beneath. If the film has taken the damage, we can discuss removal and replacement of that section rather than treating a whole panel as a paint repair by default. Can paint protection film be removed?

Film can be removed when it reaches the end of its useful life, when a panel needs repair, or when you want to change the coverage plan. We inspect the paint, edges, and any earlier repair work before we advise on removal. Mercedes car coating is different: it bonds to the paint surface and cannot be peeled away as a sheet. Some STEK film installations carry up to a 9-year manufacturer warranty. Adding STEK Final Coat makes a 12-year extended warranty available. Mercedes-Benz paint protection system decisions should include the warranty, the panels covered, and how you use the car near salt air and winter-treated roads. Should I take Mercedes-Benz dealer PPF?

Take the dealer package only if its written film brand, covered panels, installer and warranty match the quote. Dealer packages vary, so the package name alone does not tell you what receives film. Gleamworks installs XPEL, STEK DYNOshield or SunTek. Its published starting prices are $1,299, $1,799 and $4,699. Any price gap should buy more panel coverage, better prep, or both.

What are Mercedes-Benz PPF downsides?

The main drawback is cost, and film can still be cut, gouged or punctured by a hard impact. It needs careful prep, so existing chips and deep scratches do not vanish beneath it. A poor install can leave visible edges or trapped dirt, and it can look worse than no film. Film cuts common abrasion; it does not stop every kind of damage.

How long does Mercedes-Benz PPF last?

Up to 9 years is the manufacturer warranty available on installed film. STEK DYNOshield with STEK Final Coat can qualify for a 12-year extended warranty. Sun exposure, road grit, poor washing, chemical fallout and neglected edges shorten film life. Regular washing and early inspection of impact damage help the film perform as intended.

What ruins Mercedes-Benz PPF?

Avoid picking at lifting edges, scrubbing with dry or dirty mitts, and using abrasive polishing compounds on the film. Do not leave sap, bird droppings, fuel spills or road tar to bake on. Avoid strong solvents unless the film maker permits them. These mistakes can stain, dull or lift the film. Have damaged sections checked instead of cutting or patching them at home.

Can I wash Mercedes-Benz PPF safely?

Yes, hand washing with a clean mitt and pH-neutral soap is safest. Touchless bays are generally acceptable, but avoid brush tunnels because dirty brushes can mar the surface. A pressure washer is safe if you keep it moving and do not blast film edges or seams at close range. Dry with clean microfiber rather than a worn chamois.

Is PPF worth it on a Mercedes-Benz in Vancouver?

Yes. Vancouver receives 1,159.5 mm of precipitation each year, mostly rain, so water can sit on paint and leave mineral spotting after it dries.
