Mercury Ceramic Coating

Bring your Mercury to Gleamworks at 5-8855 Laurel Street for an inspection before you commit to a coating. We have protected 2,000+ cars over nine years, and we can show you which marks machine polishing can remove before we price the work. There is no use coating a finish that needs correction first. Call 604-789-0762 and decide between correction, coating, or film based on the paint in front of us.

WHAT IS CERAMIC COATING?

A common mistake is to put a coating over swirls, chips, and old wash marks, then expect it to fix them. On a discontinued Mercury, that can leave you paying for work that should have happened first. A single panel repaint at a local body shop typically runs $600–$1,500. Mercury closed in 2011, and factory paint support no longer exists. That makes original paint worth correcting before you cover it. Mercury Coating is a thin, hard sacrificial layer that resists light marring and makes road grime easier to wash away. It does not fill chips, stop rust in damaged metal, or replace repair. At Gleamworks, we assess paint in good light, then machine-polish swirls, spider-webbing, and oxidation in house before coating. That step decides whether the finish looks cleaner or merely glossier. Choose correction first if you can see marks after a wash.

WHY TO CHOOSE PREMIUM COATING?

Winter damage on this coast often starts below the doors, not on the hood. Brine and salt from Highway 1 and the Sea-to-Sky cling to rocker panels and wheel wells, then travel home after the drive. During the 169.5 days each year with measurable precipitation, that residue stays damp longer than it would in a dry climate. A coating on painted outer panels helps grime release during proper washing, but it cannot protect an exposed chip or clean the wheel wells for you. Mercury Detailing at Gleamworks starts with a practical look at where the paint has already failed before we machine-polish it. We can also coat wheels and glass, so you can protect surfaces that take wash water and road spray. Rinse the lower body and wheel wells after salted trips; that is the part a coating does not do.

CERAMIC COATINGS BENEFITS

Good Mercury Car Detailing does not promise that a coating will stop stone chips. For chip-prone panels, film is the better choice, and we install XPEL, STEK DYNOshield, and SunTek in gloss, satin, and matte. On painted surfaces, the coating gives you a hard sacrificial layer that resists light wash marks and helps remove cedar sap, pollen, and dried rain marks after they land. We use CQuartz Professional, Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra, and Revivify, including a self-healing ceramic option. We match prep to paint condition rather than a fixed menu. The published five-year option works out to $300–$550 per year, against $600–$1,200 per year for repeat short-term products. That comparison matters if you plan to keep original paint in sound order rather than pay again for short-life work. Film suits impact risk; ceramic coating suits easier washing and light-marring resistance on painted areas.

FAQ

Book Your Ceramic Coating Today – Protect Your Investment for the Next Years.

How much does Mercury ceramic coating cost?

A Mercury ceramic coating costs $600–$2,200 for a sedan or compact, $1,000–$2,800 for an SUV or crossover, and $1,300–$3,200 for a full-size truck. That is Gleamworks’ installed range, based on coating term, vehicle size and paint condition. Heavy swirls or oxidation need machine correction first, which adds prep work.

Should I use a paint shop for Mercury coating?

No current Mercury dealer package exists, so compare the installer’s prep rather than a badge. A five-year install at Gleamworks costs $1,200–$2,500. Gleamworks corrects swirls, spider-webbing and oxidation before applying CQuartz Professional, Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra, Revivify, or graphene coating. A lower quote may leave out that prep work.

What are the downsides of Mercury ceramic coating?

The real drawbacks are upfront cost, prep time and limits on what it can stop. A coating is not scratch-proof, and it will not prevent stone chips or repair failed paint. It adds a thin, hard sacrificial layer that resists light marring. Poor prep leaves defects visible under the coating, so a cheap install can look worse than bare paint.

How long does Mercury ceramic coating last?

Service life is 9–18 months for a one-year coating, 3–5 years for a five-year product, 5–7 years for a seven-year product, and up to 9 years with maintenance for a nine-year coating. Parked-outside use, dirty wash tools, tree sap, mineral deposits and skipped washing shorten that life. The paint’s present condition also affects the prep required.

What can ruin a Mercury ceramic coating?

Avoid brush tunnels, abrasive pads, strong degreasers, and polishing the coated paint unless the coating is due for renewal. Do not let sap, bird droppings, road salt or hard-water spots bake on. These contaminants can stain or clog the coating’s water behaviour. Use clean mitts and drying towels, because grit trapped in either causes swirl marks.

Are car washes safe after ceramic coating?

Hand washing is safest. A touchless bay is generally fine, though its chemicals can be harsh if used often. Avoid brush car washes because trapped grit can mar the coating and paint. A pressure washer is safe if you keep the wand moving and do not hold it close to one spot. Rinse first, use clean tools, then dry promptly.

Is ceramic coating worth it on a Mercury in Vancouver?

Yes, it is worthwhile in Vancouver, chiefly for easier washing and less staining. The city receives 1,119.2 mm of rain across 169.5 days each year. Standing water can leave mineral spots, while brine from the Sea-to-Sky can foul lower panels. Coating helps cleanup, but it will not stop grit from chipping paint.

Can ceramic coating protect Mercury collector value?

Yes, if the original paint is sound, coating can help retain it by making grime and staining easier to remove. Mercury ended in 2011, and no factory paint support remains. That makes careful correction and protection more relevant. Repainting one panel typically runs $600–$1,500. Coating cannot fix rust, peeling clear coat, or prior bad repairs.
