MG Paint Protection Film

PAINT PROTECTION FILM FOR VANCOUVER RICHMOND BURNABY SURREY LOWER MAINLAND, BC

WHAT IS PAINT PROTECTION FILM (CLEAR BRA) ?

Paint protection film is a clear protective layer fitted over the painted areas you choose. It takes the first contact from small stones, road grit, and light scuffs before that contact reaches your paint. It cannot stop every hard impact. For MG imports on the BC coast, that matters because water can sit in a chip through the wet season and work into exposed paint. We install XPEL, STEK DYNOshield, and SunTek in gloss, satin, and matte finishes. Manufacturer coverage runs up to 9 years, and a 12-year extended warranty is available with STEK Final Coat. Choose it for the panels that face grit, rather than expecting a coating to do the same job.

BENEFITS OF PAINT PROTECTION FILM

Timing matters more than a calendar date on an imported MG. Fit the film before a Sea-to-Sky run, after three years of use, or before you offer the car for sale. Between Horseshoe Bay and Squamish, this is one of BC’s worst stone-chip stretches. MG Detailing at Gleamworks has protected 2,000+ cars, so we assess the panels you plan to keep rather than sell a stock kit. A Gold Package starts at $1,799 and covers the full hood, full fenders, mirrors, front bumper, and headlights. If chips reach paint, repainting one panel at a Metro Vancouver shop typically falls in the range of $600–$1,500. Decide between front coverage and whole-car coverage by looking at the roads you actually drive.

How long does it take to apply paint protection film?

The amount of coverage decides the booking plan more than the badge on the grille. Our Light Package starts from $1,299 and covers the half hood, half fenders, mirrors, and front bumper. Platinum coverage begins at $4,699 for the full car. An older MG may need a closer look at its front paint before we set the work plan, especially if it has made repeated runs on Marine Drive or the Sea-to-Sky. We inspect the paint, confirm the areas you want covered, and give you the schedule for that scope. Bring the car in for an assessment before you plan the work around a trip.

Are there any special care instructions for paint protection film?

Vancouver receives 1,159.5 mm of precipitation in a year, with 1,119.2 mm falling as rain. That is why film care here is mostly about stopping dirt, salt, sap, and standing water from sitting on the surface. Wash your car on a regular basis, then rinse the lower doors, rocker panels, wheel arches, and front end after winter runs. Remove cedar or fir sap, cottonwood fluff, and pollen before they dry on the paint. Use clean wash tools and avoid hard scrubbing on a dirty panel. In shaded parking, check for moss or algae around seams and trim. On an MG with original paint, this routine helps keep moisture and grime away from old chips and panel edges.

What happens if the film gets scratched?

Do not pick at a mark or try to cut it out yourself. A scratch may sit in the protective layer, or it may run through to paint; we need to inspect it before we can tell which. The affected piece can be changed when damage stays in that area, instead of treating the whole car as damaged. An impact can still break through, particularly on a low front end behind highway traffic. For an imported MG, deal with that damage before wet weather gets into an exposed chip. A rock-chip touch-up visit in Metro Vancouver typically falls in the range of $75–$250, but touch-up paint does not undo a damaged panel. An inspection tells you whether you need film replacement, paint work, or both.

Can paint protection film be removed?

Yes. We can remove the protective layer when it reaches the end of its useful life, before paint work, or when you want to change coverage. We inspect the edges, existing chips, and paint history first. That check matters on an older imported MG, where original panels and past refinishing work may not be easy to replace. We do not treat removal as a quick peel-and-go job. At 5-8855 Laurel Street in Marpole, we can look over the car and explain what its paint condition means before removal begins. That inspection lets you decide whether to remove one area, replace it, or leave sound coverage in place.

What kind of vehicles can use PPF?

An MG can use PPF if the paint condition and the areas you want covered suit the work. MG never returned to North America after 1980, so the cars here are enthusiast imports rather than common local stock. That makes original paint, clean panel edges, and available body parts worth considering before you expose the front end to BC roads. Vancouver averages 36.6 cm of snow each year, and winter road treatment can stay in wheel wells and along rocker panels after a trip. We offer gloss, satin, and matte finishes, then set coverage around how you use the car. A fair-weather roadster may need front protection first, while a car that sees winter trips needs closer attention to lower panels.

How much does MG paint protection film cost?

$1,299 is the published starting price for partial MG coverage. A Light Package covers the half hood, half fenders, mirrors, and front bumper. Gold coverage starts at $1,799 and adds full hood, full fenders, and headlights. Full-vehicle Platinum coverage starts at $4,699. Small panels, paint condition, and chosen add-ons set the final quote.

Should I use an MG paint shop or installer?

Use a specialist installer if the work includes film, rather than a generic protection offer. MG is not sold new in Canada, so there is no current dealer package to compare. Gleamworks installs XPEL, STEK DYNOshield, or SunTek, prepares paint in house, and can protect vulnerable areas without covering every panel. The extra spend buys material choice, fit, and proper paint prep.

What are the downsides of MG paint protection film?

The main drawback is cost, and film can still be cut or punctured by a hard stone strike. Full coverage starts at $4,699, while a partial package starts at $1,299. Old paint may also need correction before installation, which adds time and cost. A poor install can show edges, trapped dirt, or lifting, and film does not make paint damage-proof.

How long does MG paint protection film last?

It can last up to 9 years under the manufacturer warranty, depending on film and care. STEK Final Coat can extend coverage to a 12-year warranty. Sun, neglected washing, harsh chemicals, and repeated abrasion shorten film life. On an enthusiast import, condition matters more than age alone, so we inspect paint and previous repairs before recommending coverage.

What can ruin MG paint protection film?

Poor wash habits ruin film faster than normal driving. Avoid abrasive brushes, strong solvent cleaners, dirty wash mitts, and picking at edges. Do not aim a pressure-washer nozzle directly at an edge or damaged area. Let fuel, bird droppings, tree sap, and road salt sit too long, and they can stain or stress the surface. Remove them gently and promptly.

Can I wash an MG with paint protection film?

Yes, hand washing is safest, and a touchless bay is generally the next best option. Use clean mitts, pH-balanced soap, and soft drying towels. Avoid brush tunnels because grit in the brushes can mark film and paint. Pressure washing is fine at a sensible distance, but keep the stream away from seams and edges. Film still needs regular washing.

Is paint protection film worth it on a MG in Vancouver?

Yes, for an MG that sees local roads, targeted film is a sensible spend. Vancouver gets 1,159.5 mm of precipitation each year and measurable precipitation on 169.5 days. Water can sit in chips, then freeze and expand during winter swings. Highway grit and brine add risk on longer trips, especially around Deep Cove and other exposed routes.

Does paint protection film help MG collector value?

It can help preserve original paint and reduce likely reconditioning work, which matters on an older enthusiast import. A panel repaint at a Metro Vancouver body shop is typically in the range of $600–$1,500. Film cannot undo existing defects, so we assess the paint first and protect the areas most exposed to chips.
